Design Dialogue with Lisa Ann Gallagher

We recently visited the home office of Lisa Ann Gallagher of Evergreen Script Services, an author, freelance coach and content creator. Lisa’s love for stories found its way into her business model and even her workspace.

Lisa Ann of Evergreen Script Services is an author, content creator and professional coach specializing in Narrative, or storytelling.

“My office is in the back of my house, part of a built-on space which includes the laundry room, a small den, and several closets and cabinets,” Lisa shared. “For years, it was a junk room and I used my second bedroom as my office. But this April my mother came to visit and I finally cleared out the junk, installed new carpet and moved my office back to this room. Now, it’s a much more purposeful room, dedicated to work.”

She cited the best features as the cabinets, to tuck away items not in use, as well as access to the back door for quick workday breaks where she can enjoy the warmth of sunny days with her two Chihuahuas.

Lisa also admits what doesn’t always work well. “I wish I tidied up more frequently and kept everything out of sight but that doesn’t always happen. I prioritize my clients ahead of my own business and personal needs sometimes. Plus,” she laughed, “Stormy and Sage are the two most worthless secretaries ever! They’re very codependent and don’t understand - if I’m home, why am I not playing with them?”

When asked about her own design aesthetic, Lisa said, “I call it ‘Prairie Punk Poet’! I love small spaces, tiny nooks and clean surfaces. I want a home and office that feel unconventional and inspiring. Plus, there are literary touches everywhere. Books aren’t just something I read and write – they’re practically fixtures around my home!”

Her office includes modern touches, including the color choices (combinations of warm/cool colors) and the brass light fixture at the desk. But the décor is ever-changing. Lisa remarked, “Sometimes I’ll walk through my house and ask, what item feels right for my office? Right now, it’s the raw green peridot on the candle above my desk and the abalone shell with sage and palo santo. I’m drawn to rituals, both personally and professionally.”

When asked about her choice for the ‘most beautifully designed space’ in the Black Hills, Lisa Ann told us about her first vacation here, in Spring 1999. “Sometime that weekend we drove by a house in the Northern Hills. It looked like a Craftsman; grey paint, a stream out front and a Japanese maple tree. There was something so peaceful and perfect about that modest home. I moved here six years later and you know, I’ve never found that house again! Sometimes I take random drives around the Hills hoping I’ll see it.”
